Australian Aboriginal Art News:
The coveted Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award (25th) - Was held on Friday August 15th celebrating the Silver Jubilee.
The four categories in which prizes of $4000 were awarded are:
- the Telstra General Painting Award: Winner - Doreen Reid Nakamarra
- the Telstra Bark Painting Award: Winner - Terry Ngamandara
- the Telstra Work on Paper Award: Winner - Dennis Nona
- the Wandjuk Marika 3D Memorial Award (sponsored by Telstra): Winner - Nyapanyapa Yunupingu
The non-acquisitive Telstra Award of $40000 is awarded to the overall top piece in the exhibition. This is the premier Aboriginal art event in Australia showcasing both top and emerging Aboriginal artists. Makinti Napanangka from Kintore NT, is this years major prize winner.
